A strong finish in the just concluded Black Mountain Masters in Hua Hin earned Prayad Marksaeng a berth in the US Masters at the Augusta Golf Club from April 9-12.
After two mediocre rounds which saw him trail leader Johan Edfors by 10 strokes in the Black Mountain Masters in Hua Hin, Prayad crafted a brilliant 8-under-par 64 on the final day to wrap up with 15-under-par 273, which was two shots behind the Swedish winner.
As a result, Prayad moved up three places to a career-best 47 in the world rankings this week, which automatically awards him a slot in the first Major of the year for the second straight year.
n 2008, Prayad received an invitation to the Masters but back injury forced him to retire in the second round.
After I withdrew with injury at last year’s Masters, I always wanted to play my way back into the tournament. There were people who looked down on me after my withdrawal and said I would never be invited back. So I wanted to prove very badly that I could qualify on my own merit, said Prayad. Taiwan in the Masters.
I feel I can play the golf course. I still remember every detail of the course from last year’s experience and I hope to play well in the Masters.
